Litos ( Greek Λυττός [2] ), Xidas [3] ( Ξιδάς [4] ) is a village in Greece , in the east of Crete . It is located on the south side of the mountain on the western edge of the Lasithion plateau . It is part of the community (dim) of Minoa Pediada in the peripheral unit of Heraklion in the periphery of Crete . The population of 234 inhabitants according to the 2011 census [2] . The community area is 5.849 square kilometers [1] . Residents are mainly engaged in agriculture, growing olives .

In the village are the churches of St. Charalampy , St. Titus , St. Stylian , St. George , the Crucifixion of the Lord, St. Nicholas and the Saints without money .
History
At the site of the village was the ancient city of Likt [5] ( Λύκτος ) or Litt [6] . Founded in the Minoan period . Likt is mentioned by Homer in the Iliad , in the List of Ships [7] and in the Feats of Menelaus [8] . It flourished in the Roman period . Strabo wrote that Likt competed in power with Knossos and Gortyna and was located 120 stages from Knossos and 80 stages from the Libyan Sea [6] . The ship's anchorage Likta was Chersonese on the coast of the Cretan Sea [9] . It was considered a Spartan colony. In the years 346-343 BC. e. between Likt and Knossos there was a foreign war in which Sparta came out on the side of Likt and ensured his victory. It is mentioned in the Venetian period in 1583 as Xidas .
