Biography
Born in 1883 or 1884 in Baghdad . Hashim’s father, Ahmet Hikmet Bey, served as deputy governor. The grandfather of Ahmet Hashim was the theologian Mahmoud al-Alusi . In addition to Akhmet, the family had two more children younger than him. In connection with the work of his father, the family often moved [2] [3] .
When Ahmet Hashim was 8 years old, his mother died. After that, the family moved to Istanbul . There Hashim graduated from the Galatasaray Lyceum , in which he studied poetry and French. During his studies, he met with Hamdullah Suphi , Emin Bulent, Izzet Melih and Abdyulhak Shinasi [3] [2] .
Since 1906 he worked as an official. At the same time he studied at a legal lyceum, but did not finish it. Then he worked as a teacher and translator [3] [2] .
After the outbreak of World War I, he was drafted into the army. He took part in the Gallipoli campaign [3] [2] .
In 1924-28 he repeatedly visited Paris [3] [2] .
He died on June 4, 1933. He was buried in Eyup cemetery [3] [2] .
Creativity
He published the first poems in 1901. The works of an early period of creativity were written under the influence of Muallim Naji , Jenap Shahabettin and Tevfik Fikret and belong to the genre of classical Ottoman poetry. In 1909, he joined the literary society Fajr-i ati, but eventually moved away from it. Under the influence of the works of French poets, he turned to symbolism [3] [2] .
