Domenico Tedesco ( German and ital. Domenico Tedesco ; September 12, 1985, Rossano , Italy ) - German-Italian football coach. From 2017 to 2019, he was the head coach of the Schalke 04 club.

Personal life

When Tedesco was two years old, his family moved from the Italian province of Cosenza to the Esslingen region of the German state of Baden-Württemberg [1] . After completing professional training as a trader in wholesale and foreign trade, he also received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a master's degree in innovation management.

Career

Youth Teams

Tedesco was not a professional footballer, but played only at an amateur level in Chryslig (9th division) for the Eichwald club. This club, where Domenico also worked with children under the age of nine, was the first in his coaching career [1] .

In 2013, Tedesco became the coach of the youth team of Stuttgart until the age of 17, where he worked for two years. In 2015, he led the Hoffenheim youth team until the age of 17. A year later, Tedesco was promoted to coach of the Hoffenheim team to 19 years. In 2016, Tedesco completed the German Football Union's coaching courses at the Hennes Weisweiler Academy, receiving the highest score of 1.0 [2] .

Erzgebirge

On March 8, 2017, Tedesco was appointed head coach of the Erzgebirge , who at that time was in last place in the Second Bundesliga [3] . The contract was valid until the summer of 2018 and was valid even when the club left for the Third League [4] . Under the leadership of Tedesco, the Erzgebirge scored 13 points in the first five matches, leaving the relegation zone [5] . On May 5, Domenico was fined € 1,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct against a referee in a match against St. Pauli (1-0) [6] . In 11 matches with Tedesco, the club from Aue scored six victories, tied twice, took 14th place and escaped from relegation.

Schalke 04

In June 2017, Tedesco became the head coach of Schalke 04 , replacing Marcus Weinzirl and signing a contract until 2019 [7] . In the 2017/18 season , Schalke 04, under his leadership, finished in second place and went directly to the group stage of the Champions League . He was fired on March 15, 2019 after a 0: 7 defeat from Manchester City.
