Size ranges from 10 to 36.8 cm. The head is of medium or large size. The trunk is strong, extended. Limbs massive, large. Coloring mostly dark colors [1] .
They live in savannas , tropical and subtropical forests, mountains. Lead a semi-aquatic lifestyle. Occurs at an altitude of 2500 m above sea level . Active show at night. They feed on invertebrates , rodents , small reptiles and amphibians [2] .
These are egg-laying amphibians. Some species protect their masonry [3] .
The range of the family covers Sierra Leone , Cote d'Ivoire , Nigeria , Cameroon , the southern part of Gabon (including border areas with Congo ), Togo , Bioko Island , the mountains of Ethiopia , Tanzania and Kenya . Perhaps live in Uganda [4] .
