Today we rightly call A. Nekhay a classic of modern Adyghe music. Firstly, because a number of works created by him laid the foundation for the development of the corresponding genres of national music. Secondly, because as exemplary, a number of his works entered the treasury of the spiritual values of the Adyghe people. And thirdly, because A. Nekhay has a beneficial effect on the development of modern Adyghe music, he takes a real part in its formation.
However, one must speak about the composer not only from the point of view of translating the leading tendencies of modernity, but also of creating a work of unconditional aesthetic value that elevated the national - characteristic to the significance of universal humanity.
When it comes to the maturity of professional national culture, among other things, it is understood that it offers a turning point in the national material of universal human socio-psychological motives.
The composer helps to achieve these goals by the fact that he is very closely connected with the folk sources of music, variously translating them, and most importantly, initiatively transforming them, creating a kind of continuation of the folk tradition in the framework of professional art.
A. Nekhay entered the Adyghe music as a person with his own aesthetic position, with his life understanding, with the desire to tell his contemporaries about the contemporary. Not only with his own creativity, but with all his activities, he defends the right of music to be a necessary part in the formation of the national identity of the people.
One of the turning points in his work was the creation in 1991 of the State Adygea Folk Song Ensemble “Islamey”, the only professional group in the Adyghe world performing Adyghe folk songs, the artistic director of which he is to this day.
The state ensemble of folk song and dance of Adygea “Islamey” has become an adornment of the spiritual culture of the Republic of Adygea, and is considered to be a unique creative team that has no analogues in the musical culture of multinational Russia. This uniqueness lies in the presence of innovative means in music, where various musical directions and styles are used in the synthesis, while the nature and integrity of the Adyghe folk song are not violated.
The state ensemble "Islamey" works not only in the song genre. His repertoire also includes large-scale works such as variation, rhapsody, rondo, etc.
