Neil Zaslal ( born Neal Zaslaw ; born June 28, 1939 , Great Neck , New York , USA ) - an American musicologist , is one of the leading experts in Mozart's works.
Born in the city of New York . In 1961 he completed his studies at Harvard University at the BA level, and received a master's degree at the Juilliard School in 1963. He played the flute in the American Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Leopold Stokowski from 1962 to 1965. In 1970, he received his doctorate from Columbia University , and he also taught at the City University of New York from 1968-1970. Since 1970 he taught at Cornell University .
Zaslav's early works related to authenticism and especially the tempo and decoration in relation to the French and Italian styles. He conducted extensive work on the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , including the 1989 work on symphonies. In 1993, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the updated Kächel Catalog .
At one time he collaborated with such famous musicians as Jaap Schroeder and Christopher Hogwood .
