Biography

Born in Coral Gables, Florida , raised in Bethel, Connecticut . He entered the University of Western Connecticut , but after the first semester he left university studies and moved to New York , where he began to participate in the life of the post-punk and know-wave scenes there. He was not long a member of the hardcore punk band Even Worse. After that, together with his friend Lee Ranaldo (future member of Sonic Youth), he studied with the avant-garde composer Glenn Branka experimental techniques for playing the guitar (in particular, the proprietary "sonicius" method of playing the guitar with a screwdriver).

Sonic Youth

In 1981, Moore and Ranaldo created the Sonic Youth group. The original names were Male Bonding, Red Milk, and The Arcadians, and Moore's final name was made up of MC5 team member Fred Sonic Smith and Youth, who like to take artistic registers as artists for pseudonyms (for example, Big Youth ). In 1985, Moore marries the guitarist and vocalist of the group, Kim Gordon , and in 1994 the couple gives birth to a daughter, Coco Haley Gordon Moore . In October 2011 , the couple announced a divorce. [2]

In October 1989, Sonic Youth traveled to Kiev, Vilnius, Moscow and Leningrad, but due to poor promotion, too few people came to the concerts. In June 2007, the group visited Russia for the second time.

Beyond Sonic Youth

In the early 90s, Moore took part in the indie supergroup Dim Stars with Richard Hell . In 1995, Moore recorded a solo album Psychic Hearts , and in 2007 released his second solo album. He wrote the music for the film Maniac (2001) starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt , collaborated with bands and musicians such as Lydia Lunch , REM , DJ Spooky , The Afghan Whigs , and directed the Pavement video for Here. Thurston Moore also owns the independent label Ecstatic Peace! For some time, he wrote reviews of new music releases for Arthur Magazine (currently not available).
