Nils Gabriel Sefström ( Swede. Nils Gabriel Sefström , June 2, 1787, Isbo ( Helsingland ) - November 30, 1845, Stockholm ) - Swedish chemist and mineralogist, one of the discoverers of the Vanadium element.
Niels Gabriel Sefstrom was a student at Jens Jacob Berzelius . From 1820 to 1839 he taught at the mountain school of Falun . After that, he worked as the head of the laboratory of the Royal Mining College in Stockholm. In 1830, when studying an iron-containing mineral from the Taberga area, he again discovered the Vanadium element [1] , which was already discovered in 1801 by Andrés Manuel del Rio in a Mexican lead ore deposit. Immediately after this re-discovery, Friedrich Wöhler found that in the case of the discoveries of Sephstrom and Rio - the elements of Vanadium and Eritochrom, we are talking about the same chemical element. In 1815 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences , and in 1841 a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
Two glaciers on the island of Svalbard are named after him.
