History
Friendly relations have developed between the countries. A negative factor complicating relations between states is Togo's internal political instability, as a result of which a large number of refugees from this country arrived in Benin. The Government of Benin made efforts as a mediator to resolve the internal troubles of the neighboring state [2] [3] .
In 2001, the Government of Benin made a statement that the armed forces of Togo had moved border posts without coordination. A joint intergovernmental commission was created to resolve the crisis. The governments of both states continue to negotiate financing the construction of the Ajral hydroelectric station on the Mona River [1] [4] .
