Chvanov, Mikhail Andreevich

Born in the village of Staro-Mikhaylovka, Salavatsky district of the BASSR. Father Andrei Alekseevich Chvanov is a disabled soldier of the Great Patriotic War, a participant in the counteroffensive near Moscow. Mother Chvanova (Letanina) Praskovya Filippovna, after graduating from high school, taught mathematics, physics, and drawing in a rural school.

He graduated from the philological faculty of the Bashkir State University . He worked in the youth newspaper, a handyman at a construction site. As a speleologist , he was one of the leaders of the expedition that first investigated the largest cave system in the Urals - the Kutuk-Sumgan precipice, for which in 1967 the USSR Ministry of Geology was awarded the honorary badge of exploration of the subsoil. With volcanologists climbed to the craters of active volcanoes of Kamchatka: Bezymyanny , Ostry and Plosky Tolbachik , the highest volcano of Klyuchevsky of Eurasia (4850 m). After the helicopter crash in late autumn, he roamed in the spurs of the Suntar-Khayat range in the upper reaches of the Okhota River. In the 70s, he was one of the leaders of the All-Union Expedition in the search for a missing S.A. Levanevsky plane during a flight over the North Pole from the USSR to the USA in August 1937.

On the early story of M. Chvanov “A ticket to childhood” (1971) Vasil Bykov wrote to the author:

He is the author of more than 20 books of prose and journalism published in Ufa , Voronezh , and in Moscow in the publishing houses Sovremennik, Soviet Writer, Contemporary Writer, Thought, Voice-Press, and Veche. The philosophical essay “The Time of the End and the Beginning”, first published in 1984 by the Literary Gazette, was later reprinted several times by other publications and widely distributed throughout the country in photocopies.

In 1992, Chvanov became the head of the S. Aksakov Memorial House-Museum in Ufa, created with his participation.

For decades he has been engaged in the work of our great countryman, the history of his family, and in this field has achieved impressive success. On his initiative and with his direct participation, the Aksakov House Museum was opened in Ufa. To save him from destruction - this was the first task.

For many years there was a skin and venereal clinic in it, then they decided that it did not make sense to restore the old building, but it was better to arrange a replica.

This terrible barbarism was largely averted by Chvanov’s efforts.
