The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra ( Los Angeles Philharmonic ) is an American symphony orchestra , founded in 1919. Led by its first director, Walter Henry Rothwell, the orchestra gave its first concert just 11 days after the first rehearsal. The heyday of the orchestra is usually associated with the name of Zubin Meta, who directed it in the 1960s and 1970s ; from the same period, the Los Angeles Philharmonic began regular recordings. Throughout its history, the orchestra changed several home scenes until it occupied the newly-built Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2003 . In addition, the orchestra gives summer concerts on the unique open space " Hollywood Chalice ".
