Theater History
The history of the creation of the theater in Arkhangelsk dates back to 1846 , when the theater building was first built in the city.
The theater was played by troupes of various entrepreneurs , many outstanding actors toured ( V.N. Davydov , M.M. Tarkhanov , P.N. Orlenev ).
The modern building of the Drama Theater was built on the foundation of the Holy Trinity Cathedral , which was dismantled in 1929, the central Orthodox church of the city.
A permanent troupe in the theater appeared only in 1932 . The first performance was a production by M. Gorky “At the bottom”.
At different times, the troupe of the theater included actors : G. A. Belov , E. E. Zhilina , S. V. Lukyanov, A. I. Svirsky, S. I. Bestuzhev, S. N. Plotnikov , B. I. Gorshenin , D. S. Alekseev, M. N. Kornilov, K. K. Kulagina, L. P. Kuznetsova, Z. Kh. Slavina, V. A. Sokolovsky , V. P. Solovyova, A. N. Kuderman, N A. Falcon; Directors: I. A. Rostovtsev , E. A. Prostorov, I. I. Azrov, N. K. Tepper, K. T. Berezhnoy, K. Kupetskiy, Boris Raikin.
From 1964 to 1967, the facade of the theater and the auditorium, the stage, and backstage premises were reconstructed. The facade of the theater in the spirit of the time was made of glass and concrete .
In November 1961, during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of M.V. Lomonosov , the theater was named after this great Russian scientist.
Since the beginning of the 2000s , the theater building has been closed for reconstruction and its lengthy implementation is explained by a lack of funding. In 2007, the facade of the building was tightened by scaffolding and financial investments increased. For this period, the troupe of the theater conducts its performances on the Small Stage of the Drama Theater (the former large hall of the Pomeranian Philharmonic).
By the summer of 2009, the theater was completely re-equipped and is now one of the most modern stage complexes in Russia, able to receive artists of any level and genre.
