Chaim Koren ( Hebrew חיים קורן ; born June 6, 1953 in Israel ) is an Israeli diplomat, former Israeli ambassador to Egypt . [1] Koren is also a former director of the political planning department at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, and he also became the first Israeli ambassador to South Sudan .

Biography
Koren worked in various diplomatic posts in the USA , Egypt and Nepal . He was the director of the Middle East department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry. [2]
He is fluent in Arabic, including Sudanese dialects. During his diplomatic career, he worked with security officials to resolve and understand the problem of Sudanese refugees from Darfur. [3]
Koren is director of the Middle East Division, Center for Political Studies of the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem . His positions in the Foreign Ministry are: Director of the Political Planning Department (Jerusalem), Deputy Spokesperson, Consul for Press and Information. Consul General of Israel in Chicago , Consul at the Consulate General in Alexandria , Second Secretary of the Embassy in Kathmandu , Nepal.
His dissertation on the title of PhD was written on the topic: "Local Archives in Dar Fur (Western Sudan) 1720-1916." Koren also worked as a teacher at Israeli universities. Among his courses are: “Development of the Arab Media” at the Department of Communications at Haifa University . In addition, teaching the same course at the Department of Middle Eastern History, "Social and Political Development of Arabs in Israel." Lecturer at Emek Yezreel College - the history of the Middle East, the sociology of Islam, the Arab media. Koren is a member of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago , as well as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Haifa University, where he teaches a course in Middle Eastern Politics.
In August 2010, he was appointed as the first Israeli ambassador to Ashgabat, but the Turkmen Foreign Ministry also rejected his candidacy.
