Mobvoi’s core team includes Google engineers, artificial intelligence developers, former Nokia employees, engineers and developers from leading universities such as Johns Hopkins , Harvard , MIT , Cambridge and Tsinghua , as well as leading Internet companies such as Yahoo Beijing , Baidu , Tencent and others. Over 60% of the Mobvoi team are engineers.
Since its inception, Mobvoi has gone through 5 investment stages from Sequoia Capital , Zhenfund, SIG, Perfect Optronics Ltd (HK listed), GoerTek (A-Share listed) and Google with a total fundraising amount of $ 75 million [2] .
Company History
Mobvoi was founded by Zhifi Lee [3] in October 2012. In May 2013, Mobvoi launched a voice search service introduced in the popular messaging application, WeChat [4] .
In 2014, Mobvoi launched its independent voice search application called Chumenwenwen [5] , which covers more than 60 areas of vertical search, including various types of everyday information [6] .
In 2014, Mobvoi released its own Android-based operating system, Ticwear OS 1.0 [7] . Mobvoi has partnered with Frog Designto to launch the Ticwatch smartwatch. [8] In June 2015, Mobvoi launched Ticwatch in China using Ticwear 3.0. Ticwatch ranks first in sales of Android-based smart watches in China, after Apple Watch on platforms such as JD.com [9] , Tmall, Suning and Amazon . Ticwatch is used by more than 100,000 people [10] .
Android Wear has entered into a strategic partnership with Mobvoi to work together to introduce Android Wear in China. The Moto 360 [11] is the first Android Wear device in China to enable voice search and voice generation in Chinese developed with Mobvoi. Mobvoi launched the Mobvoi Store service, which is the official partner of Android Wear in China [12] .
In 2016, Mobvoi launched the Ticauto [13] [14] [15] - a rear-view mirror for cars using artificial intelligence. Ticauto and Ticmirror were demonstrated at CES 2016 in the automotive innovation section [16] .
In June 2016, fundraising for the Ticwatch 2 project on the JD crowdfunding platform was launched and 12 million yuan was raised within 11 days. On July 25, 2016, Mobvoi launched a fundraiser for the Ticwatch 2 Global Edition project on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter project reached its goal of $ 50,000 in less than ten minutes. The campaign raised over 2 million in support of the project in less than 29 days. [17]
