Kalinkina village

Kalinkina village is a small Izhora village that existed in the lower reaches of the Fontanka River even before the foundation of St. Petersburg . This is the area of modern Pokrovsky island , part of the Admiralteysky district of the city. There is a version that initially the village was called Kalganitsa and under this name was first mentioned in 1505. The main occupation of the inhabitants was fishing. The entire channel of the Fontanka and even the village of Spasskoye (on the site of the Smolny monastery ) belonged to the Kalganitsky volost [1]

"This village existed in the XVII century and was called in two ways: on some old maps - Kalyula, on others - Kallina ( Swede. Kallina ) [2] . In the early years of the construction of St. Petersburg, the name of the village was redone in Russian fashion. They began to call her Kalinkina. [3]"

In the place names of St. Petersburg, the village left a bright mark:

  • the banks of the Fontanka River in the second half of the 18th century connected the three-span with four stone towers Kalinkinsky or Kalinkins, later - the Staro-Kalinkinsky bridge along Staro-Petergofsky Avenue .
  • The Malo-Kalinkin bridge across the Griboedov Canal is located on the Fontanka embankment near Staro-Kalinkinsky.
  • Novo-Kalinkinsky bridge (this bridge is also called Novo-Kalinkin) is thrown along the Old Peterhof Avenue through the Obvodny Canal .
  • From Labutin Street to the Fontanka Embankment in the Admiralteysky District , Kalinkin Lane leads.
  • There used to be Kalinka shops, hospitals.
  • Repin Square, too, until 1952 was Kalinkinsky.
