History

On the site of the existing house in the 70s of the XX century there was a wooden one that belonged to Count Louis de Gilles. In 1784, the aide-de-camp of Empress Catherine II, Nikolai Vysotsky, bought it. He rebuilt the house in the style of classicism , the construction of the house was carried out from 1785 to 1790 [1] . During his lifetime, Nikolai Petrovich arranged secular evenings and balls, about which Stepan Zhikharev wrote in 1805 [2] :

Pyotr Ivanovich and I went to look at the lighted windows of Vysotsky's house. The whole Basmannaya to the Butcher's Gate is dammed with carriages: tsugi , tsuga and zugi. The drivers were handed out in rolls and spread a pennic in a glass. It is lordly. Music is heard from afar: ecossa and a la Greek make you jump.

In the middle of the XIX century , after the death of Nikolai Petrovich, the building changed its status and became an apartment building [3] . Information about the future of the building up to the present is not available.

In 2012, the house was illegally repaired, as a result of which its historical appearance was severely damaged: the runners were knocked down, the rust was damaged and the plaster layer of the facade was damaged [1] . Currently, the premises of the building are rented as offices.
