Biography
In the 1970s, she studied at , in the 1980s, while living at , she continued her education at , and in the mid-1990s she studied accounting at . In 2010 I entered the University of Iowa and in 2016 received there a 's degree [1] .
For fourteen years, she served as treasurer of Clark County (Iowa), then was elected to the State Senate. In the second year of her first term, Terry Branstead , preparing for his new gubernatorial election, invited her to run with him as vice-governor. They were elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. May 24, 2017 due to the transfer of Branstead to diplomatic work, she assumed the post of governor, becoming the first woman in this post in state history [2] .
On November 6, 2018, she was elected Iowa Governor for a full term, defeating Democrat in a difficult struggle (after counting 90% of the ballots, she received 50% of the vote against 47.8 from Hubbel). One of the main topics of the election campaign was the problem of abortion - Reynolds once signed the so-called “heartbeat bill”, one of the most stringent laws in the state in America, limiting legal abortion to a six-week pregnancy. Hubbell, a former member of the supervisory board of Planned Parenthood, campaigned for his cancellation. Opponents also discussed the privatization of the Medicaid health insurance program [3] .
Personal life
In 1982, she married Kevin Reynolds, a soil fertility specialist who worked for more than three decades at the US Department of Agriculture [4] .
