They live in a wide variety of biotopes - from the steppes to tropical forests . The actual range , apparently, is determined by the restrictions on the reproductive process, imposed by the total annual rainfall in the north and minimum temperatures in the south. Often observed in settlements [2] .
The range of the family covers the central and southern parts of Chile and neighboring Argentina [1] .
