Else Marie Friis ( Dat. Else Marie Friis ; born June 18, 1947 , Holstebro , Denmark) is a Danish paleobotanist, “one of the world's leading and pioneer in the study of early flowering plants ” [2] .

Biography
She graduated from Aarhus University (1975) with a master's degree in science and in the same place received in 1980 a degree in science (Doctor of Philosophy) with a thesis “Microcarpological studies of Middle Miocene floras of Western Denmark”.
In 1980–81 worked in London. In 1981–87, she worked at Alma Mater. Since 1987, a professor at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, she headed the department of paleobotany, now eméret. She was a distinguished ( Bass Distinguished ) visiting professor at Yale.
Co-editor of The Origins of Angiosperms (1987) and Early Evolution of Flowers (1994).
Foreign member of the London Linnaeus Society (2003) [4] . Since 2009, a corresponding member of the German Paleontological Society .
Marked with a number of awards. Honorary Doctor of Uppsala University (1999). The first class knight of the Order of the North Star of Sweden (2015) [2] .
