Biography
Born on December 9, 1934 in the city of Svisloch, Grodno region of the Byelorussian SSR in a working class family.
In 1953 he graduated from high school and in the same year entered the Belarusian Institute of Physical Culture (now the Belarusian State University of Physical Education ). He was engaged in various sports, focusing on freestyle wrestling. He studied with the honored trainers of the USSR and the BSSR - university professors Professor B. M. Rybalko and associate professor P. V. Grigoriev. [1] He advocated for the voluntary sports society " Harvest " ( Minsk ) at the championship of the republic.
In 1957, Leonty Fursa graduated from the institute and was supposed to work in Slutsk in distribution, but thanks to the support of Georgy Georgievich Vlasov, the head of the Grodno Regional Children's Sports Society, he ended up in Grodno . Since 1957, he worked as a trainer and teacher in freestyle wrestling at the city school of higher sportsmanship.
The first coaching success came to Fursa in 1961, when his student Kuzma Bodak became the bronze medalist of the USSR Championship (later also engaged in coaching) [2] , and Leonty Petrovich himself received the title of USSR master of sports in freestyle wrestling.
Among the pupils of L.P. Fursa are more than 100 masters of sports in freestyle wrestling, including two participants in the Olympic Games, as well as five honored trainers of the Belarusian SSR. His students won 35 medals at the championships of the USSR, Europe and the world. The pride of the coach are: A. Karnitsky [3] - bronze medalist of the European Championship (2001) and champion of the World Universiade (2004); P. Sandyuk - champion of the USSR (1982); A. Savko - winner of the World Cup, bronze medalist of the European Championship (1993), champion of the USSR, two-time winner of the USSR Cup; K. Bodak , A. Chertikov, O. Gogol , V. Maldzigov, P.
