Adam Jacob Shubin served as the United States Treasury Secretary from January 20, 2017 to February 13, 2017. He became Acting Secretary after the resignation of US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and Deputy Finance Minister Sarah Bloom Raskin. Previously, he served as deputy secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence. In April 2017, he joined the Sullivan & Cromwell law firm. ^[2]

Education

Shubin, from an orthodox Jewish family, studied at the Yavneh Academy in the Ramaz school ^[3] . He received an AB degree from Harvard College and a JD from Harvard Law School.

Family

Shubin lives with his wife, Miriam and three children, in Washington, DC.

Treasury

Joining the Treasury in 2004, Shubin worked in the Bush administration as a senior adviser to the deputy minister for terrorism and financial intelligence. From 2006 to 2015 (three years in the Bush administration and six more in the Obama administration), Shubin served as director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury. On April 16, 2015, President Obama appointed him Deputy Minister for Terrorism and Financial Crimes. ^[4] In 2016, the Senate Banking Committee approved its candidacy, but the full Senate did not confirm it. Trump, not yet confirmed by the Senate, asked him to remain as deputy secretary of state ^[5] . He became Acting Secretary of the United States Treasury after the resignation of US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and Deputy Finance Minister Sarah Bloom Raskin on January 20, 2017. After the expected confirmation that Steven Mnuchin is secretary of the Treasury, Shubin leaves the civil service ^[6] .
