Biography

Michel DeMion (fr. Demion Michel Gerard Ernest; June 18, 1943, Rennes , France - March 11, 2016, Morbihan , France) - French writer and traveler. He grew up in the town of Chateau Gautier under the influence of Breton culture. With 10 years engaged in dancing and music, entree in the Celtic circle. In Scotland at the age of 18, having completed a course in bagpipes, becomes a musician. He received his first professional skills as an apprentice to a prosthetist, but left the profession at the age of 19 to serve in the army in Germany. Upon returning home, the thirst for wandering does not leave him. In 1965, Michel DeMion became a piper at Kevrenn Saint-Mark in Brest, giving his passion and all his abilities to passion. An excellent musician, he takes part in numerous festivals of Breton music before becoming head of Kevrenn Alré from 1965 to 1968. He is a member of SACEM .

In addition to music, he actively participates in political activities at two UNEF congresses (National Union of Students of France) in Poitiers and Lyon. In 1968, he joins the UDB (Breton Democratic Union). The party has become a real university for him. There he works with Paol Keineg , Ronan Leprohon , Jean Guegueniat . He is responsible for the Brest Recouvrance district (1968-1971), a member of the political bureau of the UDB, responsible for education (1976-1979) and a member of the municipal council of Lorient (1983-1989).

Michel DeMion receives a certificate of professional social work (DEFA) , and then a diploma of higher education in political economy. He begins work at the FJT (Young Workers Association) with a team that transforms the social life of the city of Lorient. Then it is transferred closer to Paris in Nogent-sur-Oise, Picardy district. There he is actively involved in the fight against illiteracy, opening schools for young workers. From 1990 to 2003, he is director of the FJT Young Workers Association .

As a traveler, he crossed Latin America, North America, Central America, Central Asia, China and French Polynesia. He traveled to 68 countries for 84 trips. In 2010-2011, he travels around the world in almost a year with one backpack on his back [1] . This trip leads him to Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the islands of the Pacific Ocean and the United States. Michel DeMion writes: “We changed the night more than 228 times, but mostly twisting kilometers: 55,000 km on reserved airplanes, 6,500 km on charter flights, about 6,000 km on a rented car, 6,500 km by train, 8,000 km on by bus, 3,000 km on foot, not counting the ship (six days of navigation), by taxi, hitchhiking, on a motorcycle, in the back of a truck for two days, and even 5 kilometers by cable car! ” [2]

He is the author of travel books, poetry brochures and 5 novels, the most important of which is ' La fondation du monde '. Michel DeMion dedicated to this book, which became the pinnacle of his work, 7 years of his life. The novel gives a new vision of religious, political and military forces on the planet and reveals little-known goals that affect global geopolitics. He offers, among other things, his alternative to the history of civilizations.

In 2008, as a member of the municipal council of Bono (Golfe du Morbihan), he creates two literary awards: Bernard Moitessier and Sten Kidna for young travelers writers.

In 2015, he is diagnosed with brain cancer. Michel DeMion died on March 11, 2016, at the age of 72, after ten months of exhausting struggle for life. In the same year, the Morbihan Cultural Association established the Michel DeMion Literary Award [3] to honor the work of authors who write in the Breton language.
