Content
Club career
Gernot Jurtin joined the Austrian club " Sturm " in the summer of 1974 with coach Karl Schlecht and almost immediately entrenched in the main team. The player played for the club for thirteen years, becoming one of his legends. In the 1980/81 season, Yurtin became the top scorer of the Austrian championship, scoring 19 goals, five of which were against the Wiener Sport Club in the match on June 5, 1981 (Sturm won 7-0). Being one of the leaders of the team’s attacks, Yurtin formed an effective bond with Bozho Bakota in the attack. By the time the player left the club, he had 378 matches and 117 goals. Gernot was the first player in Sturm history to score 100 goals in the league.
In 1987, Yurtin moved to Kapfenberg, having played one season for him, and then ended his career.
Team Career
Yurtin played for the Austrian national team from 1979 to 1983, having played a total of 12 matches and scored one goal. He took part in the 1982 World Cup, playing in two matches - against Chile and Northern Ireland .
Death
On December 5, 2006, Yurtin died of cancer at the age of 51.
