Biography
Born on January 18, 1890 in the town of Glukhov of the Chernigov province in the family of a civil servant. He graduated from the Glukhov gymnasium (1909) and the historical-philological faculty of Kiev University (1914). Assistant manager (1914-1921) and manager (1921-1931) of the Central Archive of Ancient Acts in Kiev . Lecturer in historiography at the Higher Women's Courses (1916-1919) and history at the Archaeological Institute (1918). Since 1919 - a freelance editor of the Historical and Bibliographic Dictionary of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, since 1929 - a scientist of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, since 1930 - Chairman of the Archaeographic Commission of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
In 1931, he was accused of "narrow technicalism" and fired from his job at the Central Archive of Ancient Acts and at the VUAN. In 1932—1934 - employee of the Kiev regional plan. In 1934 he was arrested on charges of counter-revolutionary activity and sentenced to 5 years of forced labor (rehabilitated in 1958). Since 1940 - teacher of the Karaganda Teaching Institute , since 1944 - Associate Professor.
He defended his doctoral thesis on the topic: "Essays on the history of the state economy of Ukraine in the XVII century." Professor, Head of the Department of History of the Stavropol Pedagogical Institute (1947-1971). Under his leadership, prepared and defended more than 20 Ph.D. and several doctoral theses.
He began his scientific activity in his student years. The main issues of research were the economy and financial system of Ukraine of the 2nd half of the XVII — XVIII centuries. He made a significant contribution to the development of archeography, source study and archival studies. A number of his works are devoted to the history of the North Caucasus .
