Firebug shows in the console the function that caused the error, the stack of calls to the functions that caused this error. It warns that the CSS rule or JavaScript method / property you are trying to use does not exist.
Development
Firebug was originally developed by Joe Hewitt , a programmer, purchased by Facebook in July 2007 [5] .
Subsequently, the Firebug Working Group [6] became involved in coordinating the development of the extension. The most significant contribution to the development began to make John Barton ( English John J. Barton ) from IBM , who played a key role in the preparation of releases 1.1 and 1.2 and Jan Odvarko ( English Jan Odvarko ) [7] [8] .
Mozilla and Firebug developers have announced the merger of Firebug and the DevTools toolkit offered by Firefox. The development of Firebug as a separate add-on will be discontinued, and its functionality will eventually become part of Firefox DevTools [9] [10] [11] [12] .
Features
- Convenient viewing of the HTML code of the page. Inspect function allows you to accurately locate the tag of a particular element, view all the properties and styles that are “attached” to it.
- Editing HTML and CSS directly in the browser [13] . You can change tag attributes and property values in order to observe changes. It is convenient for those cases when it is necessary by experiments to find the most acceptable design option for the created page [14] .
- JavaScript debugging [15] .
- Tracking the page loading process.
- View HTTP headers for regular and AJAX requests.
Firebug Add-ons
A number of add-ons have been created for Firebug, expanding its functionality or simplifying work with it [16] :
- Firecookie - view and manage cookies
- FirePHP - library and add-on for debugging PHP code using HTTP headers
- FireRainbow (inaccessible link) - JavaScript syntax highlighting
- YSlow - extension measuring the speed of loading a page and its individual components
Firebug Lite
For browsers Internet Explorer , Opera , Safari and Google Chrome there is a simplified version - Firebug Lite. It is a JavaScript file that must be included in a debugged HTML page or used in the bookmarklet mode [17] .
