Barberry Juliana , also barberry Juliana ( Latin Berberis julianae ) is a shrub , a species of the genus Barberry ( Berberis ) of the family Barberry ( Berberidaceae ).

Biological Description
Evergreen shrub 0.5-2 m (in the range up to 3-4 m) of height, of a straightened shape with a very dense, densely branched almost spherical crown . The branches are erect, grayish-yellow, with age, the branches hang in an arcuate shape. Shoots are yellowish, ribbed, not pubescent in youth. Spines 1-3 cm long, tripartite, powerful, stiff.
The leaves are simple, whole 3-10 cm long, about 2.5 cm wide, oval-lanceolate or obovate-lanceolate, obtuse or shortly pointed, densely serrated, with 12-20 small, prickly-prickly teeth on each side, glabrous, stiff, leathery, dark green above, glossy glossy, fawn below and slightly shiny.
The root system consists of a powerful weakly branched and widely spread main root.
Flowers 1 cm in diameter, yellow, sometimes reddish on the outside, collected in small-flowered bunches. Pedicels up to 1.5 cm long. It blooms in June.
Fruits 0.8-0.9 cm long, oblong, blue-black, with a dense white wax coating, with a short column.
Distribution and Ecology
Originally from Central China ( Guangxi , Guizhou , Hubei , Hunan and Sichuan ). It rises to the mountains at an altitude of 1000-1500 m above sea level.
In the former USSR, it was cultivated in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden , in Adler , Sukhumi , Baku .
Prefers sunny and partial shady places. It grows on soil from moderately dry to moist, both acidic and alkaline. It is frost-resistant up to minus 29 ° C.

Economic Use
In culture since 1907. Widespread. Highly decorative. Unpretentious. Recommended for park gardens and urban areas. Planted in places protected from the wind. It blooms and bears fruit in the middle lane , but can freeze in harsh winters.
