Toponymy
The village is located at the mouth of the Altan River (from the drill. Altan - gold ). Presumably, in the second half of the 17th century a gold mine was located in these places. According to local historians, with the advent of Soviet power, local residents began to hide information about the location of the mine in order to avoid its transfer to the state [4] .
History
The settlement was founded in 1961 by settlers from the villages of Buzhidai , Dakhan , Ust-Osa and Baihon , flooded as a result of the creation of the Bratsk reservoir .
However, back in the 17th century, Buryats lived on this territory, and later Russians began to settle.
In Soviet times, the state-owned millionaire Ust-Altansky functioned in the village. In 1990, a cheese production workshop was opened in the village, but after a while this enterprise, like the entire state farm, were closed [4] .
Economics
In the spring of 2006, it was planned to open a fish processing workshop in the village [5] , however, the fish resources of the Osa River were not enough for this, and the plans were not implemented [4] .
Social Sphere
In the village there are a school, a kindergarten, a House of Culture [5] .
Tourism
Not far from the village is the Golden Sands Beach - a popular vacation spot for residents of Irkutsk . Its area is approximately 2150 hectares. In connection with mass rest in the summer, spontaneous dumps are periodically formed on the beach [4] [5] .
