History

The classification has been played out since 1970, twice interrupted from 1975 to 1985 and from 1994 to 2001, and is considered less popular among the rest. Its winner in most cases is the winner of the race. [one]

Rules

The points accrued correspond to the occupied places in each of the counted offsets where the rider is obliged to take any place: 1 point for the first place, 2 points for the second and so on. [2] [3] In case of equal places in one of the standings, the riders received an average value. For example, two riders share 3rd place, then (3 + 4) / 2 = 3.5 points. The final ranking is in the order of increasing points. The cyclist with the least points was the classification leader.

Notes

0. ↑ Roberto Eras became the winner of the 2005 Vuelta of Spain and was awarded during a ceremony in Madrid at the end of the last stage, but it was subsequently established that he showed a positive test for drugs that increase performance during stage 20 of the race. The Spanish Cycling Federation found him guilty of using erythropoietin during the race and stripped him of his title, conferring victory on Denis Menshov . [4] However, in 2012, Roberto Eras was reinstated as the champion of the Vuelta of Spain in 2005, when the Spanish Supreme Court ruled in favor of Eras, citing procedural violations related to the storage and processing of urine samples.
