Alexey Vladimirovich Melnik (born March 13, 1961 in Vrublevtsy ) is a Ukrainian coach. Master of Sport. Coach of the Ukrainian freestyle wrestling team. Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine (2004). Father and coach of Olympic champion Irina Merleni .

Biography
Alexey Melnik grew up in his native village, where he also graduated from eight classes of a local school. In the sixth grade I enrolled in the free-style wrestling section. The first weighty victories were the primacy of the district, region, and then of Ukraine, in the youth category. After the eighth grade he moved to Khmelnitsky . There he signed up for the free-style wrestling section at the Avangard base. In parallel with the sport he studied at vocational school number 4 on the builder. After college he entered the Kamenetz-Podolsk Pedagogical Institute , the faculty of physical education. In 1983 he received a diploma in physical education and a coach in freestyle wrestling.
He met his wife Tatiana Alexandrovna in his native Vrublevtsy, where a student Kamenets-Podolsky Pedagogical Institute was sent for internship. Almost a year after they met, the couple got married, and even less than a year later, a daughter, Irina, was born in the student family Melnikov, named after the figure skater Irina Rodnina .
At the age of 14, Irina signed up for the free-style wrestling section, but she walked there only for two weeks. Alexey Vladimirovich, seeing that her daughter has the strength and good potential, began to work with her individually, and a year later Irina Melnik received her first medal [1] .
On September 18, 2004, Alexey Melnyk was awarded the title “Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine” for significant personal contribution to the preparation and provision of high sports achievements of the national team of Ukraine at the XXVIII Olympic Games in Athens [2] .
