Biography
Steffen Blochwitz was born in 1967 in the city of Herzberg, East Germany. In the late eighties, he was recognized as one of the best German road racing cyclists. In 1988, he took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul as part of a team of cyclists from the GDR. In the team pursuit, along with teammates Hennig, Meyer and Wolf Blokhvits won a silver medal. With a result of 4.14.09, athletes from the GDR lost the race to rivals from the USSR, who with a result of 4.13.31 took first place [2] [3] . In the early 90s, Blochwitz’s career began to decline. Despite the support of Karsten’s friend and partner, Wolf Steffen was not able to get a contract and join the Telekom team. Moreover, during a bike ride in the Netherlands, he fell off his bicycle 15 kilometers from the finish line. The incident had consequences for the health of the rider - he hit his head on the handrail and broke two cervical vertebrae. For several weeks, Blochwitz was bedridden in a hospital [4] .
