GhostBSD is a unix-like operating system based on FreeBSD , one of the rare (along with TrueOS ) FreeBSD-systems, especially focused on the application on workstations . Includes GTK-based pre-configured user graphical environments: Gnome , MATE , LXDE , Xfce and Openbox [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] .

Delivery GhostBSD supports both working in the role of LiveCD (LiveUSB), without installing on the built-in drive, and installation using its own ginstall installer, written in Python . Versions for x86 (i386) and x86_64 architectures are available. The latest beta version is 11.1-RC1 from November 2017 [9] .
The author of the project is Eric Turgeon , the project has existed since 2010 and is funded by donations [10] .
In May 2018, the developers of GhostBSD announced that the operating system will be based on TrueOS [11] .
