Biography and Creativity

Born in the village of Tlkuran near Cilicia [2] . Came from a monastic environment [3] . The poet’s creativity is didactic poems and songs , which touch on the theme of love and nature [2] . He also wrote music for his works [3] . Tlkuranzi frees the Armenian love lyrics from allegorical and conventions, openly singing the beauty of a woman and love [1] , continued the tradition of antifeudal secular poetry [4] . The poems of Tlkurantzi are distinguished by a vivid imagery, a storm of feelings. The poet’s works gained deserved fame during his lifetime. On the basis of folklore, he also created epic works. Thus, Tlkuranzi became the first Armenian poet who processed the material of oral folk art [5] . The most popular of them, “Songs of the Brave Liparit,” is based on the legend of the struggle of the Armenian military leader against the Egyptian Mamelukes and his tragic death. In the poet’s work, love lyrics also stand out: “Song of love”, “I met a beauty unexpectedly”, etc., moralizing verses [1] , about the dangers of wine, about false friends, etc. In the work “The Priest’s Son and Mullah’s Daughter” talks about the love of a Christian and a Muslim.

Stronger than the cross is your grace
I can’t find the strength to control you.
Earth are you a flame? Near sit down.
I am sick — and now I am healthy again.
Love don't kill me
Do not be an executioner!

And shame is forgotten. Priest, monk,
And you can’t be saved - it will overtake in the dark
Love will break your sleep. Where is the fear?
Laughing, slandering the people — all dust.
Love don't kill me
Do not be an executioner!
