The decision to hold the championship in Valencia was made on March 10, 2016 at the IAAF Council. In the struggle for this right, the Spanish city was ahead of the Polish Sopot and Danish Copenhagen [1] .
A 21.0975 km long route was laid along the streets of Valencia, close to the main city attractions. Start and finish were located on the territory of the City of Arts and Sciences , an architectural complex, one of the brightest examples of modern architecture [2] .
The World Cup was attended by 279 runners (157 men and 122 women) from 80 countries. Each country could exhibit 5 participants among men and women. The strongest in the team championship were determined by the sum of the results of the three best runners in each team.
Following the men, a mass run was launched. About 14,000 amateur athletes pre-registered for the competition entered the World Cup. The organizers allowed runners with personal records to start in this group worse than 1: 03.00 in order to avoid mixing the participants of the World Cup and the mass race [3] .

Competition Results
During the start of the women's race, the air temperature was +17 degrees Celsius, it was raining lightly. Netsanet Gudeta showed the 18th result in world history, and also set a new world record for races involving only women - 1: 06.11. When running along the highway among women, the IAAF records two types of world records: those shown in mixed races with the participation of male pacemakers , as well as exclusively in women's competitions. The absolute record of Kenyan Joysilin Dzhepkosgei (1: 04.51) remained unattainable for the participants of the championship, including for Dzhepkosgei herself, who finished in second place. At the same time, the “female” achievement of Lorna Kiplagat (1: 06.25) Netsanet Gudeta improved by 14 seconds [4] .
Kenyan Jeffrey Kipsang won the half marathon world title for the third time in a row. Given the team championship, this gold medal was the fourth for him. Only Zersenai Tadese from Eritrea had more victories in this tournament - five individual, four of them in a row (from 2006 to 2009), and one team. Kipsang gained a decisive advantage in the distance from the 15th to the 20th kilometers, which he overcame on 13.01 (such an impressive result was possible due to the strong tailwind and the terrain). None of the opponents could support his jerk. Abraham Cheroben from Bahrain became the best of the Kenyan pursuers, winning the first individual medal for his country in the history of the World Half Marathon Championships [5] [6] .
