Media and critics have repeatedly noted the speeches of Sergey Toptygin. The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Kommersant in an article about the premiere of the opera Fallen from the Sky:
Both Meresyev and surgeons (Dmitry Ovchinnikov, Andrei Palamarchuk and Artem Chulkov), and Meresyev’s hospital neighbor, pilot Kukushkin (Anatoly Ponomarev), all sing and play extremely convincingly. And the commissar (Sergey Toptygin) almost completely overshadowed both main characters.
Theater critic Sergei Korobkov in Novaya Gazeta :
“Did I really live so long in the world?” Becomes the main characterization of the character performed by the lead singer of “Helikon-Opera” Sergey Toptygin, who paints his character more with baritone (read lyrical) than with bass overtones. Toptygin's masterfully sung arias, including the famous aria of honor, come out with recognition, a lyrical confession of a man who has become entangled in the times.
"Newspaper Culture":
Sergey Toptygin painted a portrait of the title character, finding in the bass-baritone range the light lyrical colors of his father’s sufferer and darkening the lyrics where the doge requires will and determination.
Multiple performances at the Bolshoi Theater [9] [10] [11] [12]
He has toured in Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Israel, China, South Korea, the USA, Lebanon and other countries.
