First Stage (52 Lenin Avenue)
The first stage of the houses of the State Industry Commission (52 Lenin Ave.) was completed in 1934. Four residential buildings of two types of planning were commissioned - each with a height of 6 floors. In the inner buildings (Lenin 52, buildings 2 and 3), corridor and sectional planning systems were used, and in the buildings facing the streets of Sonya Morozova and Bazhova (Lenina 52, buildings 1 and 4), the apartments are two-level. On the main avenue of the city - Lenin Avenue - the houses of the Gospromural are facing but not front facades, demonstrating the principle of line building , popular in the early 1930s. The ends of the buildings are "raised" on the columns.
These houses are united by a three-story building of the clinic. In the space between the buildings there were green areas, one of which had a round fountain.
The internal space of the buildings was developed as a combination of several layout options: a polyclinic and a kindergarten - according to the corridor type, in the outer buildings of the quarter - apartments on two levels, in the internal ones - the corridor system is combined with the sectional system. The system of courtyards and gardens seemed to be a continuation of residential premises and was actively included in the life of the population of the quarter as a place for collective recreation, sports games and entertainment [1] .
In 1936, the southern part of the complex was completed, including 4 more residential buildings located symmetrically with respect to the northern part. In 1936, social facilities were also built (kindergarten, nursery, laundry), located in structures that connected all residential buildings with each other. This complex is one of the largest among communal houses built in the USSR. Due to the original layout (clearly visible from the air [2] ), the houses of the Gospromural in Yekaterinburg are sometimes called “comb houses” [3] .
In one of these buildings, the famous scout N.I. Kuznetsov lived in the 1930s.
Second Stage (54 Lenin Avenue)
The second stage of the Gospromural’s houses is located at 54 Lenin Avenue, and has 5 residential buildings. Three of them, facing the Lenin Avenue, are connected by the polyclinic building.
Three houses built in the western part of the complex were commissioned in 1932. The two remaining were completed in 1936-1937.
Second stage houses have decorative elements - such as cornices, stucco images of a sickle and a hammer, a hammer and gears, and a balcony railing. The southern buildings (4 and 5) at this address are the only residential buildings of the entire complex that are not connected by ground crossings to other residential buildings.
