History and Release
The album was first mentioned by Chris Martin , frontman of Coldplay , forcing The Chainsmokers to confirm this. This happened during an interview on the red carpet of the Grammy Award, where they confirmed the name of the album, release date, and also announced a tour in support of the album, which received the same name [3] .
Taggart said: “We are ready. We have a finished album, it will be awesome. He will be released on April 7th, should I have said this? ”Before Poll replied:“ No, but everything is in order. ”
The album was released on April 7, 2017 [4] .

On Metacritic, the album received an average score of 43/100, based on 8 reviews, indicating “mixed or average reviews” [5] .
Damen Morris from The Guardian noted the band’s music as “instantly memorable, but at the same time completely forgotten”, comparing the album with US President Donald Trump : “Small, always betrays his influence, with a third-class dictionary and ambition that does not go beyond the nearest wallet ” [6] .
Barry Walters of Entertainment Weekly noted the duo’s commercial success, describing the style as “smooth, mid-tempo, almost simple listening to the formula,” but expressed the opinion that the album sounds “like you're playing a radio instead of one full album.” He considered “Break Up Every Night” to be the only dance song, while “other tracks are mostly ballads with modernized Moby hits without introspection or gospel samples” [7] .
Sal Sinkmani from Slant Magazine criticized Taggard ’s personality and vocal abilities, saying: “The flip side to the wild success of this approach is that Taggart and Poll are forced to reveal their creative voices to the whole world and, unfortunately, their sound has stopped firmly and does not want to move on ” [8] .
Maeve McDermott of USA Today put it: “is this the worst album of 2017?”, Calling Taggart’s vocals “hilariously bad” [9] .
Philip Sherburn of Pitchfork claimed that “the debut album from the famous duo is a gloomy retreat from its EDM days in a lifeless, painkiller pop record that is mostly covered in a sense of regret and narcissism” [10] .
Comparing the 2014 album and single #SELFIE, Scherburn wrote: “None of this sounds like“ #SELFIE “, but the world view of this album is hardly more than the narrow point of view of this song.”
Commercial Success
