Bob Rae is a Canadian statesman and politician. From October 1, 1990 to June 26, 1995, he served as Prime Minister of Ontario.

Biography
Born August 2, 1948 in the Canadian city of Ottawa , Ontario . In 1966 he entered the University of Toronto , and in 1969 he transferred to the British University of Oxford . In 1972 he graduated from the University of Oxford, has a degree in philosophy. In September 1974, Bob Ray returned to Canada and began to study law at the University of Toronto. In 1974 he joined the New Democratic Party [1] [2] . He was engaged in private legal practice in Toronto, and from 1978 to 1981 he was a federal deputy.
He was elected Prime Minister of Ontario during the parliamentary elections on October 1, 1990. As Prime Minister, Bob Ray tried to mitigate the effects of the economic downturn by increasing budget allocations to stimulate the economy. As economic problems intensified, Bob Ray ordered the introduction of labor and social contracts (which included days off without pay) for public sector workers. The reaction to this practice from other parties, supporters of their own and trade union activists was sharply negative. On June 26, 1995, Bob Ray lost the election, Mike Harris became Prime Minister of Ontario. [3] [4]
Having parted with the left course of the NDP, in 2006 he returned to the liberals, in whose ranks he was in the 1960s. In 2012, Bob Ray was the acting chairman of the Liberal Party of Canada , and in 2013 ended his political career [5] [6] .
