Vladimir Ivanovich Vasiliev (born April 22, 1937 , Saratov , USSR ) is a Soviet and Russian historian , a specialist in the history of book culture and a number of other areas of Russian history . Biography

He graduated from the Moscow Polygraphic Institute .

In 2000 he defended his thesis in the form of a scientific report for the degree of Doctor of Philology on the topic “Domestic academic book publishing: historical-bibliological and typological aspects (1727-1999)” (specialty 05.25.04 - book science) [1] . Scientific opponents were professors G. D. Komkov , S. O. Schmidt and I. A. Shomrakov .

In 2005, he defended his thesis in the form of a scientific report for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic “Book culture in Russian history: theoretical and historical-biblical aspects: XVIII - early XXI century.” (Specialty 05.25.03 - library science, bibliography and book science ; specialty 07.00.02 - domestic history) [2] . The opponents were academician V.L. Yanin , professors B.V. Levshin, and Z. K. Sokolovskaya .

The developer of a new scientific direction of historical research - “the history of book culture” - as a combination of theories and concepts that justify the place and role of books and book culture in the cultural and historical space of society.

He substantiated the concept of "book culture" as an important component of domestic and world culture. He first studied the features of the formation of Russian book culture of the 18th - early 21st centuries in the context of the founding and activities of the Academy of Sciences, and also contributed to the preparation of fundamental research on the history of the Great Patriotic War and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
