Biography

Carl was born in the family of a German junkie and was one of eight children. At the age of 13, he got a job as an assistant in a butcher shop. Little is known about the future life of Karl Grossman - the investigation could only establish precisely that he was prone to sadism and was arrested several times for seducing minors [1] .

During the First World War, Grossman actively traded meat on the black market . In addition, he even had a small station stall selling hot dogs . Despite the fact that no evidence was found by the police, it is believed that Karl sold the meat of his victims. It is assumed that Grossman threw the bones and other inedible parts of the bodies of the dead into the river [1] .

Arrest

On August 21, 1921, after Grossman’s neighbors told the police about the screams coming from his apartment in Berlin , interspersed with the sound of blows, he was arrested. During the search of the premises, a fresh body of a girl was found, and Grossman was arrested on charges of murder. According to the testimony of neighbors, Karl had a lot of young guests, not all of whom left his apartment.

How many people killed Grossman, is unknown - detectives found only one body. According to blood stains, experts established that shortly before his arrest, he had at least three more girls in his room. Some sources claim that Karl killed, in total, more than 50 women in total, killed, dismembered and sold to unsuspecting citizens. The police did not disclose any accurate data; it is considered that at least 26 murders on Grossman’s conscience are accurate [1] .

As a result, Grossman, who had not confessed to the crime, was sentenced to death , but shortly before the sentence was brought into action, he committed suicide by hanging in his cell.
