Elizabeth Dowdeswell is a Canadian statesman and politician. Since September 23, 2014, he has served as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

Biography
Born on November 9, 1944 in the British city of Belfast , Northern Ireland . In 1947, she moved with her parents to the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . In 1966 she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan , has a bachelor of science degree in economics. In 1972, she received a master's degree in behavioral sciences, graduating from the University of Utah [1] .
In 1992, she was appointed Executive Director for the United Nations Environment Program, headquartered in the Kenyan city of Nairobi . In 1996, she ranked 66th among the most influential women in the world in The Times magazine. In 1998, she returned to Canada and founded a nuclear waste management company. In the 2010s, Elizabeth Dowdeswell was president of the Council of Canadian Academies. [2] On September 23, 2014, she was appointed lieutenant governor of Ontario, succeeding David Onley [3] [4] .
