History
It was built in the 1950s in the GDR and was originally called the Metallurgical Plant. Hermann Matern , however, on August 18, 1951, it was renamed the Metallurgical Combine named after Kh. I.V. Stalin . This plant was supposed to compensate for the steel embargo on the part of West Germany . Raw materials should have been supplied from Ukraine and Poland. Thus, personifying the friendship of the peoples of Germany , Ukraine and Poland .
January 1, 1951 one of the blast furnaces exploded because of what in 1953, the number of planned blast furnaces was reduced from eight to six, and the company was engaged only in the production of pig iron .
In the early 60s of the 20th century, the city in which the company was located, was renamed from Stalinstadt to Eisenhüttenstadt . The plant was also renamed the Vostok Metallurgical Plant (Ost) . In 1968, after 3 years of construction, a cold rolling mill was launched.
In 1974, the cold rolling mill was improved and now the company could be engaged in galvanizing .
After the unification of Germany , the plant underwent major economic problems, such as the transition to a market economy, with the result that the number of employees decreased from 12,000 to 3,000 people. Soon, in 1998, EKO Stahl Joint Stock Company was sold to the Belgian company Cockerill-Sambre .
Thanks to the merger of companies in 2006, ArcelorMittal became the new owner of the company. In 2016, the plant was renamed ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt .
The plant operates to this day.
