The Vedoid race (also the Ceylon probe probe , Veddoids ) is one of the human races . Distributed by small island ranges in India , Sri Lanka , Malaysia and Indonesia . It refers to the so-called minor races. Together with the small Australoid race, it is included in the large Vedo-Australoid race [1] . In the population-genetic classifications within the framework of the australoid racial branch, it also approaches the Melanesian , Kuril (Ainu) and other local races [2] . As a part of the Veddoid race, the proper Veddoid (Sond) and taller Badarian (Deccan) anthropological types are distinguished. The first of them is distributed on the islands, the second - in the continental regions of South Asia [3] [4] [5] . The populations of the ancestors of the Veddoids and Australoids formed, apparently, in the eastern part of the tropical belt of the Old World - from Hindustan to Indochina and the Malay Archipelago [6] . The Veddoids served as one of the foundations along with the southern Caucasians during the formation of the South Indian (Dravidian) transitional race [3] .

Classification
V.V. Bunak divided the Veddoids into two races - the Vedoid and Badarian. Together, these races, similar in anthropological characteristics, form in his classification a continental branch of the southern racial trunk. Within this trunk, the continental branch is opposed to the ancient Indonesian branch with the Kuril , Polynesian , Indonesian and Australian races [7] [8] . G.F. The Vedoidoid race in this classification is divided into Sonde and Deccan anthropological types , in the first of them the influence of the Pacific Mongoloids , primarily representatives of the South Mongoloid race , in the second - the influence of the Indo-Afghan Caucasoid and South Indian races. In the studies of Ya. Ya. Roginsky and MG G. Levin, the Veddoid (Ceylon-Sund) minor race, together with the Bushman , Negril , Negro , Melanesian and Australian races, are included in the large equatorial (Australian-Negroid) race [9] [10] [11] .
Distribution
The Veddoid minor race is widespread, including as a substrate, in the western part of the territory of the formation of the Veddo-Australoid race . The most typical representatives of the Veddoid race are considered to be a number of peoples and ethnic groups living in East India and Sri Lanka . These include those living mainly in tropical forests , birchors , gonds , Veddas and some other ethnic communities . Representatives of the Veddoid race are also found among the population of South India - in this region, the populations of the Vedoid and South Indian races form a kind of mosaic area. Partially in the form of an impurity, vedoid signs are noted in individual populations of representatives of the Indo-Mediterranean Caucasoid race in North India [1] . Linguistically, the peoples of India , which are characterized by the features of the Veddoid race, belong to different linguistic groups and families - the Bhilas speak the Indo-Aryan language Bhili [12] , the Birchors and some other peoples from the Munda group speak the Austro-Asian languages [13] , gonds and others Dravidian peoples speak the languages of the Dravidian family [14] . In Sri Lanka, the Veddas speak Indo-Aryan Sinhala and Dravidian Tamil [15] . Representatives of the Vedoid race of Southeast Asia are found in small populations in the area of the South Asian race in Malaysia ( hay speaking Mon-Khmer languages ) [16] , in Indonesia ( Cuba [17] and the bast of Sumatra , Toala and Loinangi Sulawesi , Kalayantan Kalayantan and other small peoples ) and, possibly, also in Vietnam and Cambodia among some groups of mountain chams . Separate vedoid features can be traced among other peoples in the area of the spread of the South Asian race [1] [18] . In addition, Weddoid traits are found among some populations in West Asia , in particular among the Bedouins of Hadramaut in Yemen [5] . Judging by the findings in the necropolis of the city of Gonur-Depe (eastern regions of Turkmenistan ), in ancient times, the area of the Veddoid race could spread not only far west, but also north up to Central Asia . Most likely, in the past, the area of the Veddoid race occupied a much larger territory and was thus largely continuous [1] [3] .
Signs
The Vedoid small race is characterized by the following features [1] [2] [19] :
- dark skin (lighter than the rest of Australoids );
- black color of the iris ; eyes are large but deep set;
- black hair color ; hair is narrow-wavy, sometimes straight (in populations mixed with Mongoloids );
- small or moderate development of tertiary hairline on the body, medium or relatively strong growth of mustache and beard;
- smaller sizes of the head and face in comparison with australoids;
- medium-high upper lip , strong development of the mucous membrane of the lips;
- straight forehead , poor development of the ;
- wide and flattened nose ;
- growth is medium or low, in particular, among Veddan men, the average growth is 156 cm (Veddoids on the islands are usually lower in height than the Veddoids living on the continent in India);
- elongated body proportions (gracile physique ).
From representatives of the Australian minor race of Veddoids, lighter skin tones are distinguished; a less developed tertiary hairline on the face and body; smaller sizes of the head and face; lack of developed eyebrow; less prognathism ; less wide nose; shorter body length and some other features. In general, the Veddoid race can be described as a gracile version of the australoid race [1] [5] [20] . Grace in Veddoids (compared with Australoids) is manifested primarily in the structure of the skull . Meanwhile, in some groups of Veddoids, for example, in gonds, the absolute sizes of the skull are higher than in Australian aborigines [21] .
The statement that the Veddoids retained some ancient features in their appearance is, according to S.V. Drobyshevsky , erroneous. For example, such a feature recognized by the ancient as the small size of the skull is actually a relatively late formed sign, since the skulls of the Upper Paleolithic ancestors were much larger. The low arch of the skull and its grace are not ancient either. Adaptive signs that have developed as a result of adaptation to a tropical climate, such as skin color, nose width, lip thickness, also cannot be the initial signs. Most likely, the accumulation of specific non-adaptive traits and the formation of the modern look of the Veddoids occurred in relatively recent times [22] .
Anthropological types
Two anthropological types are distinguished in the composition of the Veddoid race [3] . In the classification of VV Bunak, they are referred to under the names proper “Vedoid” and “Badary” [7] [8] , and G. F. Debets uses the terms “probe” and “Deccan” in relation to them [9] . The Badary (Deccanic) type is common in the continental part of India and Indochina . From the island proper Veddoid type, the Badary type is distinguished by a higher growth of its representatives and the presence of impurities of the Caucasian and Mongoloid races in them. Among the other Veddoids of the Badaryan type, cadres from Central India stand out, in which the spread of curly hair is noted (perhaps this trait is inherited by them from populations and groups of the Melanesian race) [4] [23] . The name "Badary" is associated with the burial ground of the Neolithic Badari in Upper Egypt (4400-4000 BC), the structure of the skulls from which was recognized as similar to the structure of the skulls of modern Weddoids [24] . The Veddoid (probe) type is represented on the island of Sri Lanka and the islands of the Sunda archipelago . The features of this type are most clearly represented in the Sri Lankan Veddas - they are characterized by a relatively low growth and maximum severity of all Vedoid characters [5] [25] .
