History
The idea to create a car - sharing service arose in October 2013 [3] . Ekaterina Makarova, Loriana Sardar and Elena Muradova, inspired by the practicality of car sharing in Milan , decided to launch a similar service in Moscow [3] [4] .
Before starting the project, a thorough analysis of the car-sharing market and road problems in Moscow was carried out; Julian Espiritu, co-founder of the world's largest car sharing service Zipcar, was invited as a consultant [5] .
$ 260,000 was spent on the development of the service from the personal savings of the founders [3] [6] . Later, the company attracted investments of several million euros from the Swiss Bryanston fund [7] . In total, it took three years to prepare for the launch of the service. The company officially announced the opening on October 25, 2016 [6] .
In October 2016, with the support of the Moscow Department of Transport , 100 BelkaCar cars drove onto the city’s roads [7] . In January 2017, the park was replenished with another 150 Kia Rio hatchbacks and 50 Ford Fiesta . In February of the same year, car rental and parking became available at Domodedovo Airport [8] [9] . Over the next six months, the company launched another 600 cars on the streets of Moscow. In May 2017, the service launched a pilot parking project in the Skolkovo innovation center [10] . In June 2017, parking spaces for service vehicles appeared at Sheremetyevo Airport [11] . In August 2017, the company announced the launch of Russia's first business-class car sharing, BelkaBlack [12] . 100 Mercedes-Benz CLA Urban cars became available in the service, thereby increasing the total fleet to 950 units [13] . In September 2017, the car-sharing fleet was replenished again, as a result of which the total number of cars reached 1550 units. In March 2018, the company became the largest car sharing in Moscow. The total fleet has reached 1925 vehicles, among which there are new Kia Rio X-Line [14] and Mercedes-Benz GLA [15] . In July 2018, the service began work in Sochi, where 75 Mercedes-Benz GLA became available at the start of the launch. [16] In December 2018, the Volkswagen Polo fleet replenished the fleet [17] , and the total number of cars was 4050 units. In early February 2019, the service added the Kia Rio X-Line [18] to the fleet in Sochi , thereby diversifying the lineup in this city.
Fleet
The following brands are represented in the BelkaCar fleet: Kia Rio, Kia Rio X-Line, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volkswagen Polo. The cars were produced in 2016 and 2017, equipped with an automatic transmission and have an engine capacity of 1.4 liters (with the exception of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz, which has a volume of 1.6 liters). You can get around with BelkaCar cars throughout the Moscow region and in some areas of the Kaluga and Vladimir regions. Parking and rental are available within the Moscow Ring Road , Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, Khimki airports, in the Mitino , North and South Butovo areas, in all MEGA shopping centers in Moscow, as well as near some business centers outside the Moscow Ring Road. In Sochi, you can travel throughout the city, in the mountain resort area and along the entire coastline up to Tuapse .
