Biography
Yuri Larin was born on April 17, 1942 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. His parents moved to this city because of work at an aircraft factory. In 1946, the family again changed their place of residence and moved to Taganrog . The elder brother of the boy was fond of sports, and this influenced the hobbies of Yuri Larin himself - he began to engage in athletics sections, play hockey , table tennis , soccer , began to engage in swimming , water polo and gymnastics .
When Yuri Larin was in the fifth grade of school No. 28, he saw an ad for admission to the Club of Young Sailors and decided to enroll there. At the meeting, he was elected chairman of this club. His teachers were V.P. Popov and B. Zh. Zherdzitsky, who instilled the most important knowledge - taught how to saw, putty and paint a boat, without this knowledge it was impossible to engage in sailing .
At a time when Yuri Larin was just starting to engage in sailing, this direction was in full bloom in Taganrog. He studied at Vanguard. He was clewed on the Emka yacht , then steering on the Ruff, the Olympic. In 1960 he began to engage in the yacht " Finn ". After graduation, he began his studies at the Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute, and graduated as one of the best graduates, accepted the offer to remain at the Department of Computer Engineering.
Yuri Larin was elected chairman of the All-Union Coaching Council of the student society "Petrel". In 1965 he became a master of sports of the USSR, taking second place at the All-Union regatta “Glory of Sevastopol” in the “Finn” class [2] .
In 1968, he began working at the Krasny Kotelshchik factory, and in 1971, along with other yachtsmen, he began organizing a sports research laboratory at the Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute. They explored sail setting devices and wanted to optimize the yacht's course. Then their research shifted towards the athlete who ran the yacht. This topic was devoted to the topic of the dissertation of the candidate of pedagogical sciences Yuri Larin. He contributed to the development of sailing at the institute, arranged constant training, attracted a large number of students to classes. He facilitated the opening of a children's sailing school at the regional Burevestnik SDSSO, whose pupils were: the USSR champion in the Optimist class, the Russian champion in the LG class S. Smetanko, Oleg Khrekov - the Russian champion in the LG class, the ten-time Russian champion in class “Sailing board” M. Zuev, champion of Russia in the class “Finn”, champion of the USSR in the class “Luch” I. Frolov, multiple champion of Russia and three-time participant of the Olympic Games Vladimir Moiseev , champion of Russia in the class “Luch” and “Laser” P. Chuprin, USSR champion in the "420" class and in the "LG" class M. Zhu rba [1] .
Since 1977, he began to head the department of the Taganrog Institute of Technology SFU [5] .
He collaborated with the Finn class team, whose leader was Andrei Balashov , winner of the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games [1] . In the fall of 1978, he became the head coach of the national team in the same class. Andrei Balashov won the bronze medal at the 1980 Olympics [1] [2] [6] .
Yuri Larin conducted research in order to better understand the key to success of athletes and to develop suitable nutritional standards. For this, a research complex was developed in the laboratory that was used to measure heart rate. Observations were carried out at a distance of 2 kilometers from the athlete. Such tests were not to everyone’s liking, but one of the athletes who easily agreed and accepted them was Andrei Balashov . Special measuring equipment was fixed on it, and it passed the first tests. In order to conduct research, it was necessary to fix the electrodes, and for this sometimes it was even necessary to injure the skin, on which there were wounds that did not heal right away. In 1977, Andrei Balashov was not traveling, and Yuri Larin, on his own responsibility, managed to be let out abroad just before the 1980 Olympics - the athlete was able to start the fight for a place in the Olympic team. In Helsinki, at the open European Championship, Andrei Balashov was able to take third place and received the right to represent the country in the regatta. At first, Balashov showed poor results in the early days of the race, then after discussing with strategies coach Yuri Larin strategies for wrestling with different situations during the Olympics, he was able to win. After the athlete won the Olympics, he left his autograph with an inscription that said that coach Yuri Larin is the person who did so much for him and led to success. Another famous athlete for whom Larin was a mentor is Sergey Horetsky . According to coach Yuri Larin, Sergey Khoretsky stood out very much from other athletes who were considered newcomers: he had no bad habits, he could work to achieve the result without getting tired, and very quickly showed how his level of skill increased. His activities set the bar for many other yachtsmen on the team [7] [8] .
He worked as a trainer and teacher of sailing in Algeria from 1986 to 1989 [1] . He trained over 20 masters of sports from Taganrog, who became members of the national team of the country [9] .
In 1990 he became a professor at TRTU, in 1993 - at the University of South Carolina [5] .
Yuri Larin is the author of the book "Preparation of the Yacht Racer." From 1992 to 2000 he was the head coach of the national team. The work took place with the trainers Oleg Shilov , Alexei Charikov , Sergey Kanov , Vitaliy Timofeev , Alexander Plotnikov , Sergey Kuzov , Yuri Titavnin . As of autumn 2012, Yuri Larin worked as the head of the department of physical education at TTI SFU [1] .
