The Botanical Garden of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BS UB RAS) is a botanical garden in Yekaterinburg , a scientific institution with a fenced area, open for public visits on a schedule. On the territory there are green spaces, greenhouses, office buildings. It is located south of the city center on the main street on March 8 near the Chkalovskaya metro station , the administration of the Chkalovsky district and the Botanichesky microdistrict , named after the garden. It was founded on August 28, 1936.

Appointment and directions of work
According to official information, “BS UB RAS is the leading research institution of the Urals and adjacent regions of Western Siberia and the Urals, providing development of methods and a fundamental study of natural flora resources, coordinating research, and substantiating measures to optimize their conservation, reproduction, enrichment (introduction) and rational use in economics and socioecology ” [1] .
The official website of the institution defines the following main areas of its work [1] :
- “Introduction of species of woody and herbaceous plants new to the Middle Urals and study of their adaptation. Creation of collections of rare and endangered species of the Urals ”;
- “The study of the species diversity of the natural flora of the Urals, adjacent regions of Russia and the scientific justification of the methods of its conservation, reproduction and rational use”;
- “The study of the ecology, genetics and geography of the main forest-forming species of the Urals and adjacent regions of Russia, the development of methods and technologies for their optimal use and renewal”;
- “The scientific justification of the methods of conservation and reproduction of the gene pool of the Ural flora, the creation of a system of specially protected natural territories”;
- “Development of the scientific foundations of forest protection and reclamation of technologically polluted territories”;
- "Educational work (excursions, lectures, etc.)."
The garden is divided into two departments - the botanical department and the forestry department. There are 6 laboratories.
Features
About 4 thousand taxa (species, varieties, forms and varieties) are grown in the garden. There are bananas, oranges, lemons, pomegranates, feijoa and papaya [2] .
