After graduation, he worked in KB-11 (now RFNC-VNIIEF ), where he took part in the development of the first Soviet two-stage thermonuclear charge.

Since 1955 he worked at NII-1011 (now RFNC-VNIITF ). Since 1964 he was the head of the scientific and theoretical department, since 1978 - the head of the scientific and theoretical department, and since 1985 - the scientific adviser. From 1996 to 1998, he combined the position of scientific adviser with the position of director of the RFNC-VNIITF. Head of the Department of High Energy Density Physics (No. 61) MEPhI .

In 1957, under the scientific guidance of Avrorin, the first physical experiment in the Soviet Union was carried out, which made it possible to obtain important information about the properties of processes in extreme conditions. These results formed the basis of his Ph.D. thesis ( 1961 ).

Since the beginning of the 1960s, he worked in the field of creating nuclear charges for peaceful applications. In 1974 he received a doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences.

From 1968 to 1973 he was a deputy of the Snezhinsky city Council, from 1973 to 1977 - a deputy of the Chelyabinsk Regional Council of Deputies.

In 1987, he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of General Physics and Astronomy . In 1992 he was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of General Physics and Astronomy .

From March 2, 1995 to July 9, 1997 he was a member of the Council on Scientific and Technical Policy under the President of the Russian Federation . From 2001 to 2005, he was a member of the Presidential Council on Science, Technology and Education .

In the 2010s, he was the honorary supervisor of the RFNC-VNIITF in Snezhinsk .

He was a member of the Pugwash movement of scientists , chairman of the Snezhinsky branch of the Russian Pugwash Committee under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

Evgeny Nikolaevich Avrorin died on January 9, 2018 in Chelyabinsk from cancer. He was buried on January 12 at the New Cemetery in Snezhinsk [1] . Condolences to the relatives and friends of the scientist were expressed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev [2] .
