Name Origin

In the Middle Ages, “Tarkhans” were called fiefs , free of all taxes. However, the name, apparently, correlates with a different, later meaning of the word - “buyer of cattle, skins, canvas, hemp, etc.”. In this case, the name could indicate the locality in which they were engaged in Tarhany fishing . [5] [6]

History

In the 19th century, right up to the abolition of serfdom in 1861 , the village of Tarhan belonged to the family of princes Trubetskoy .

By 1911, according to A.E. Andrievsky , the village of Tarkhan belonged to the parish of the Pyatnitsky church in the village of Pechiny and there were 61 peasant courtyards in which 230 male and 221 female souls lived. [7]
