Story

The plot begins with the main character, who comes to a party with her friend Alice. The party is attended by drug addict Zane, as well as Riley, who has long been in love with Samantha, but forced to stay away due to the main character's preference for women. An unknown man seduces Samantha and rapes him in a car.

First day. Samantha wakes up at home and does not remember anything that happened last night. In the evening, Samantha has the first pain in the abdomen.

Second day. Samantha discovers that the bedding is completely in the blood, and in the bathroom she finds the first signs of infection. Samantha finds out that they are looking for an unknown man, but she does not pay attention to this, as she is absorbed in her relationship with Nikki. The changes are ongoing.

The third day. The infection develops and this affects the appearance of the main character: nail loss, dark veins on the skin, discoloration of the eyes, as well as hair loss. All this leads to the fact that in a fit of tantrum Samantha kills his girlfriend, and then Alice. Being depressed, Samantha calls Riley and asks for help, but all this leads to sexual intercourse without the use of a condom. Finding an infection, Riley drives Samantha away. The latter hurries to return home in her car, but falls asleep at the wheel. The infection takes full control of the main character, turning her into a zombie. The last shots of the film show moments where Samantha pounces on her mother.

Production

The director of the film, Eric England, said that he would like to shoot the film “ Contracted ” in order to “tell a story in the virus / infection genre that we have not yet seen” [6] . He wrote the script for the film in March 2012, and the shooting, which took place in Los Angeles , took only 15 days [7] . Casting for the film was difficult due to limited funds. There were also problems with some actors who considered the plot of the film “too bold” or they were busy in other projects [7] . Horror film actress Carolyn Williams was chosen to be the mother of the protagonist [7] .

It was originally planned that in the center of the plot there will be a hero who loses her virginity , but later he was changed to focus on a character who doubts his sexual orientation and the life he currently has [8] . England also originally planned to make a film outside the United States and focus a bit on xenophobia , but the size of the budget did not allow him to do this, and he decided to shoot it in Los Angeles [9] .

Criticism

The film received mixed reviews from film critics [5] [10] . On the Rotten Tomatoes website , the film has a rating of 53% based on 17 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 10 [11] . On the Metacritic website , the film has a rating of 48 out of 100 based on 5 critical reviews, which corresponds to the status of “mixed or average reviews” [12] .

The Fangoria site compared the film to another similar horror film, Tanatomorphosis [13] . The Los Angeles Times Martin Tsai stated that although the film is “absurd,” it is also somewhat “irresistible.” [14] Stacy Lane Wilson of Dread Central gave the film 2 stars out of 5, claiming it was not a horror movie or even a zombie movie. [15]

Continuation

On September 4, 2015, a sequel to the film entitled “ Infection: Phase 2 ” [16] was released in the United States.
