Johan Hendrik Vos ( Dutch Johan (Jan) Hendrik Vos ; February 16, 1895 , Amsterdam - May 17, 1961 , Amsterdam ) - Dutch draftsman , national grandmaster (1948), six-time Dutch champion in international drafts, participant match for the title of world champion in 1936 .
Sports Biography
Since 1918, Johan Vos began to take part in competitions in Amsterdam drafts societies. In 1920, having won second place, Vos successfully made his debut in the championship of the Netherlands. In total, Vos participated in national championships 25 times in his life, becoming the winner in six of them in 1922, 1923, 1925 (after an additional match with Arnold Damme ), 1930, 1932 and 1935, and nine times (1920, 1921, 1924, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1939, 1942, 1944) taking second place in the standings. In 1925, Vos began the fight for the checker crown, taking part in the World Cup in Paris . Sharing the fourth place with Hermann de Jong demonstrated that Vos is one of the strongest drafts players of his time. But the next 1928 World Cup in Vos’s homeland in Amsterdam ended in failure for him: Vos managed to split only ninth to tenth places. The victory in the Dutch championship in 1935 allowed Vos to summon Frenchman Maurice Reichenbach to the match. The match of twenty games took place in January 1936 and ended in a severe defeat for Vos with a score of −5 = 15; Vos could not win a single game. In 1950, Vos last participated in the Dutch championship, dividing seventh place.
