Biography

Ilya Davydovich Feranchuk was born on July 14, 1946 in Minsk. In 1964 he entered the Physics Department of Belarusian State University , which he graduated in 1969 with a specialization in Nuclear Physics . In 1968-1971 he worked as an engineer at the Department of Nuclear Physics, Faculty of Physics, Belarusian State University [1] . From 1971 to 1974, Ilya Davydovich was a junior research fellow at the Institute of Applied Physical Problems, Belarusian State University [1] .

In 1974, I. D. Feranchuk was elected to the post of senior lecturer at the Department of Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics . In 1975, he defended his thesis on "Radiation of ultrarelativistic electrons in crystals." In 1982, he was awarded the academic title of assistant professor. Three years later, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Coherent phenomena in the processes of x-ray and gamma radiation of relativistic charged particles in crystals”. Since 1986, Feranchuk was a professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics, and from September 2004 to the present, he was the head of the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics at the Physics Department of BSU [2] . Together with Professor Baryshevsky, Feranchuk predicted a new physical phenomenon - parametric x-ray radiation and substantiated the possibility of its practical use for various applications, received 3 copyright certificates and a patent in Japan for a tunable x-ray source , as well as a European patent.

Theoretical studies have been carried out to describe the interaction of x-rays with crystals and nanostructures. I. D. Feranchuk obtained fundamental results on the application of the operator method for solving the Schrödinger equation [3] for a nonperturbative description of quantum systems with many degrees of freedom and theoretically substantiated the effect of increasing the lifetime of atoms and nuclei in the field of an electromagnetic wave. He participates in a number of international scientific collaborations [4] . According to the results of research [4], Ilya Davydovich published 273 scientific works, 5 monographs, 3 of them were published by Springer (Germany), he is the editor of 4 collections of proceedings of international conferences, the citation index of his works on the Google Scolar database is 18. Under the guidance of I. D. Feranchuk successfully defended 20 candidates and 1 doctoral dissertation. He is a member of the specialized council for the defense of dissertations and a member of the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission. He is a member of the academic councils of the Faculty of Physics and the research institute "Institute of Nuclear Problems" of BSU, as well as the Presidium of the Belarusian Physical Society. For many years, Ilya Davydovich - member of the editorial board of the journal “Bulletin of BSU. Series 1, Physics. Maths. Informatics ” [5] .

Scientific and educational activities

Teacher

Over the years of work at the department, Professor Feranchuk Ilya Davydovich taught general courses and conducted practical classes in all areas of theoretical physics, currently gives lectures on condensed matter physics for students of the Faculty of Physics , special courses “Quantum Theory of the Solid Body” and “Mathematical Methods of Theoretical Physics” , directs the scientific work of students and graduate students. He is currently reading the general course he developed [2] : “Condensed Matter Physics”, special courses [1] : “Applied Problems of Quantum Theory”, “Mathematical Methods of Theoretical Physics” for students of the Department of Theoretical Physics, special course for masters “Coherent and Collective Phenomena in multiparticle systems. "

Scientist

The main topics of scientific work [6] :

  • development of methods for producing monochromatic x-ray radiation with a tunable frequency;
  • theoretical studies in the field of X-ray scattering in thin films and multilayer crystalline structures;
  • development of nonperturbative methods for describing collective and coherent processes arising from the interaction of charged particles and electromagnetic radiation with the medium
  • nonperturbative methods in quantum statistics and quantum field theory.
  • Together with VG Baryshevsky, a new mechanism was predicted theoretically for x-ray radiation emitted by charged particles in crystals - parametric x-ray radiation, which is currently experimentally detected and used to produce monochromatic radiation with a tunable frequency and to study the structure of crystals;
  • theoretical prediction together with VG Baryshevsky of the phenomenon of parametric beam instability of charged particles in crystals;
  • Together with L. I. Komarov, an operator method was developed for solving the Schrödinger equation for quantum systems with strong interaction between particles, which proved to be very effective in the study of many applied problems.
